Computer Standards

The following devices are supported by BYU FHSS. Any BYU-owned device that does not fit the following criteria should be surplused. For more information on purchasing a new computer, please review the FHSS Computer Purchasing Policy.

To ensure your Windows PC is supported, make sure you have the latest operating system version: Windows 10 should be updated to version 22H2 (note that support ends October 2025), and Windows 11 should be updated to version 23H2.

To check your Windows version, open File Explorer, right-click on "PC," select "Properties," navigate to "System" > "About," and view your Windows specifications. Keep your system updated through Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update to access the latest features and security patches.

If your device does not update to the latest versions contact Gary Glade (gary.glade@byu.edu) to get a new device.

Do not update to macOS Sequoia until BYU FHSS Computing Services has completed testing and has notified users that it is cleared for college use.

Apple devices should be updated to the latest macOS version (Sonoma 14.5). The current Apple macOS devices which are supported are:

  • iMac 2019 and later
  • iMac Pro 2017 and later
  • Mac Studio 2022 and later
  • MacBook Air 2020 and later
  • Mac mini 2018 and later
  • MacBook Pro 2018 and later
  • Mac Pro 2019 and later

If your device is older than the ones listed above contact Gary Glade (gary.glade@byu.edu) to get updates or a new device.
