In the next few weeks, the college of FHSS will be lining up —not for exams during finals, not for Chick-fil-a during FSY—but for something even more exciting…the FHSS Computing Inventory Audit.
Now before we panic and storm the FHSS Computing office, worry not, there will be no literal lining up during said audit. In fact, word on the street is that the audit won’t even require you to be physically present. But haven’t we already done an Audit? Shout the unruly masses. Why yes, but unfortunately audits are like birthdays, they’re kind of an annual thing, at least they are when the college wishes it, and this year, they do. So, this year for FHSS’s auditing birthday we wish to make your auditing experience a little bit easier. Like birthdays the older you get the wiser you are and this year FHSS has baked in a process to quicken the in-person auditing process, and an app to simplify the online auditing one for home reporting. So, why are we doing this all again? Ask the many brilliant minds of the FHSS College. The first reason is for the money. What? Can we say that? Well, probably not. If it helps, we’re doing the audit to ensure that BYU is accurately allocating its funds to our college. To the relief of those reading, the Dean’s Office, and very likely my boss, this means that the audit is motivated by the benefit of the Students, Faculty and Staff of the FHSS College, and by extent BYU (which is by further extent, the Church). So, it is for a good and righteous cause, (thank goodness, it got dicey there for a second). The audit data makes sure that FHSS College continues to receive the funding from BYU to buy laptops, desktops and other devices. So, happy birthday to the audit it is.
In other news, perhaps more closely related to toilet paper, clogged canals and the constant price hike of eggs, a new bombshell has entered the villa… Oomnitza. Now if that sentence was like walking into a stroke halfway through a heart attack, then you’re in good hands, you’ve rested blissfully among the lilies unaware of the chaos that supply chains can cause. Luckily for BYU we have entered the supply chain bazaar while it is piping hot with new supply chain software. Oomnitza is the new tracking inventory software being implemented by OIT for IT departments campus wide. Before this software is implemented and our department is required to upload our device data, FHSS Computing is taking the time now to ensure the data is correct going into the system. So FHSS doesn’t end up like the many examples of the previously mentioned supply chain crisis, we’re planning ahead.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, although, whose to argue importance but the reader and employees of FHSS college—the audit gives FHSS more accurate inventory data. Of course, that means little to nothing for your friendly neighborhood reader, so put more clearly, better data means better service for all FHSS Computing clients. How is this possible? Well, by knowing the location and owner of devices the IT personnel can show up on your doorstep (or more accurately your office…step) faster. Knowing details about the device hardware helps the IT personnel to solve the problem faster.
Ultimately, and I’m truly sorry to report this, the audit will benefit all the FHSS College.
